# Categories

> Organize your product catalog into logical groups

Categories let you organize your product catalog into logical groups like "Shoes", "Apparel", "Accessories", or any classification that makes sense for your business.

## Creating a category

<Steps>
  <Step title="Navigate to Categories">
    Go to Setup in the sidebar and select Categories.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Create">
    Click the "Create Category" button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter details">
    Enter a sport name (required) and description (optional), then click "Create Category".
  </Step>

  <Step title="Access actions">
    Hover over the Actions button on any row for Update or Delete actions.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set status">
    Set the status to Active (visible on storefront) or Inactive (hidden) in Update actions.
  </Step>

Categories are assigned to products when you create or edit them. Customers can use categories to filter products on your storefront, so choose clear, descriptive names they will understand.

  Categories that have products assigned to them cannot be deleted. Move or reassign products first, or set the category to Inactive if you want to hide it temporarily.
